  7. PURPOSE:
  8.  
  9. There is no option in Qmail DeLuxe² that will allow you to turn off the
  10. creation of taglines.  All messages created by Qmail DeLuxe² have a
  11. tagline whether you want it or not.  These taglines normally begin with
  12. an identifier of:
  13.  
  14.           π---π ■ DeLuxe²
  15.      
  16. If you start Qmail DeLuxe² with a "/F" option on the command line then
  17. it creates taglines that are compatible with the requirements for Fido
  18. systems.  These Fido taglines begin with an identifier of: 
  19.  
  20.           ππ:DeLuxe2
  21.  
  22. I prefer to create my own tagline in my editor and to remove the
  23. unwanted Qmail DeLuxe² tagline.
  24.  
  25. You may wish to do the same.
  26.  
  27.                        
  28. CONTENTS:
  29.  
  30. Enclosed is NOTAG.EXE.  This program totally removes the tagline that
  31. is put at the end of every reply message by Qmail DeLuxe².
  32.  
  33. With this utility in place, you can construct a tagline in your editor
  34. as you create the message.  Qmail DeLuxe² will then append a tagline to
  35. the one you created.  When you exit from processing the packet,
  36. NOTAG.EXE is invoked.
  37.  
  38. NOTAG.EXE scans each message looking for the identifiers:
  39.  
  40.           π---π ■ DeLuxe²
  41.      and  ππ:DeLuxe2
  42.      
  43. If it finds either identifier, it deletes the identifier and anything
  44. else that follows it.  This deletion continues up to the end of the
  45. physical message.
  46.  
  47. If you do not enter a tagline with your editor, your message will be a
  48. refreshingly clean presentation  with no tagline at all.
  49.

  51. NOTES:
  52.  
  53. If you use either identifier in the text of your message
  54. NOTAG.EXE will get a "false match."  NOTAG.EXE will then delete
  55. everything in your message from the start of the "false match"
  56. identifier to the end of the physical message.
  57.  
  58. In addition, Qmail DeLuxe² converts each carriage return in the text of
  59. your messages to the π character.  Therefore, there are four
  60. identifiers that can cause this "false match" condition.  These are:
  61.  
  62.           π---π ■ DeLuxe²
  63.      or   ππ:DeLuxe2
  64.      or   <cr>---<cr> ■ DeLuxe²
  65.      or   <cr><cr>:DeLuxe2

  68. INSTALLATION:
  69.  
  70. To install NOTAG.EXE on your machine, you only need to do two things.
  71.  
  72. First, copy the program.
  73.      
  74.      Copy the program NOTAG.EXE to the subdirectory on your system that
  75.      contains all the other Qmail DeLuxe² related programs.
  76.  
  77.      As an example, on my system this directory is at C:\COM\QMD.  If
  78.      NOTAG.EXE is in the current directory, I would enter:
  79.  
  80.           COPY NOTAG.EXE C:\COM\QMD 
  81.  
  82. Second, modify the Qmail DeLuxe² configuration.
  83.  
  84.      Start Qmail DeLuxe².
  85.      Enter the Configuration command (C).
  86.      Enter the Archives area (A).
  87.      Change the entry that is currently:
  88.  
  89.           PKZIP.EXE
  90.                     
  91.                to
  92.  
  93.           NOTAG d:\xxxxxxxx\PKZIP.EXE
  94.  
  95.      (d:\xxxxxxxx is the drive and directory where the program
  96.      PKZIP.EXE resides on your system.)
  97.         
  98.      As an example, on my system I would change:
  99.           
  100.           PKZIP.EXE
  101.                to
  102.           NOTAG D:\DOS\EXT\PKZIP.EXE
  103.  
  104. Now each time PKZIP.EXE would have been called, NOTAG.EXE is called
  105. instead.  After NOTAG.EXE erases the taglines from the file it invokes
  106. PKZIP.EXE, from the drive and directory you specified, to create the
  107. reply packet for transmission.
